What can I give to God?

God has given so much – everything really – and He gives it freely and without my meriting it. He has given me forgiveness of sin, the peace that passes understanding in the face of difficulties and sorrow, strength for the day. He gives opportunities to serve Him, strength for the challenge and then gives us rewards for serving…
But, what can I give Him that isn’t His already?
After all, every good and perfect gift is from above. What do I have that I haven’t received from Him? Life – He gave me that. Forgiveness – He gave me that. Peace – Courage – Comfort – Joy – from Him. Strength – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Hmm… not surprisingly, a relationship with God is kind of lopsided – He does all the giving and I seem to be doing all the receiving….
But what can I give Him?
There is something – I can give Him my gratitude – I can give Him my thankfulness. That is something that no one else can give Him. No one else can give Him the praise of my heart – just me. I can give Him my trust.
All the other things that we try to pile on to even up the scales don’t count for anything anyway. No gift of mine can earn His love – but I don’t have to earn His love. He loves me – and He wants me to trust Him – to appreciate Him – to know Him – to love Him back.
It truly is about the “relationship”. We love Him because He first loved us (I John 4:19). A heart of love will result in things done for Him. But without the love behind the actions, they count for nothing (I Corinthians 13: 1-3).
May God help me to be thankful.(Funny, even in giving Him this gift – I still need His help … You can never out give God).
Thank you Lord for saving my soul. Thank you Lord, for making me whole. Thank you Lord, for giving to me Thy great salvation so rich and free.
