On this Canadian Thanksgiving Day, one of the things I’m thankful for is that my Mom and Dad always taught me that “there’s a verse for that” – not in so many words but in practice. Here are a few of the “how to put the Bible into practice” verses that really do bring things down to day-to-day life.
How to treat others:
“And be ye kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.” Ephesians 4:32
God doesn’t give me an out here. There’s no room for “well the truth hurts”….”I just have to speak my mind”…”well, they don’t deserve forgiveness”….
And, just in case I want to excuse myself and say, “Well that’s only to ‘one another’ (other believers)”
“See that none render evil for evil unto any…” I Thessalonians 5:15 (no paybacks!!)
What activities should I be involved with:
“Abstain from all appearance of evil” I Thessalonians 5:22
What about my attitude, especially when I’m involved in something that “looks good”:
“Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves” Philippians 2:3
How can I do a work for God?
“Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent.”
John 6:29
The more we read, the more we’ll find…there really is a verse for that!
