Did you notice?

Tonight at the tail end of his message, the speaker mentioned something that got me thinking about details – little things that you might not notice – but they are there – and they’re really cool when you notice them.
It’s like when I do a musical at school. I always want everyone on the stage to be acting so that an audience member will say to a friend, “Hey, did you notice…..” about some little in-character detail that went on that not everyone might see… Or when a musician writes a piece of music and puts a little “quote” or reference to another piece of music in – something that could be overlooked but the composer did it on purpose and is kind of hoping that you’ll “get it”….. I have a picture at home that you could look at for years and not notice the “hidden picture” that the artist put in the cliff at the side of the picture away from the main focus – but when you see it, it adds to the meaning….
The speaker mentioned how Joseph told his brothers to go back to Jacob and “tell my father of all my glory in Egypt”…(Gen 45:13b) He (the preacher) related it to worship. When we worship, God wants us to tell Him about the glories that we’ve seen in His Son – the glories revealed on earth in His life and recorded in the Word of God for us to see.
But if we aren’t looking, we won’t see them. In fact, there are lots of important details that we don’t notice at first.
How often have I heard people say, “You know, I’ve read that passage so often but this time, I noticed …. and wondered how I could have missed it before.” God always has things for us to see. He leaves “handfuls on purpose” (Ruth 2:16) – but if we aren’t “in the field”, we could miss them.
I got to thinking about the words “in Egypt”. I think that’s like “in the world – now – on earth”. When we get to heaven, the details will be impossible not to notice. God’s glory will be so evident we can’t possibly miss it. But here, now, we get so busy – we don’t notice. We walk on by sometimes. Sometimes, we turn our heads away to look somewhere else … (Please Lord, help me not to look away….)
Just like it makes me happy when someone says, “Hey, I like how you ….”, I think it gives the Lord joy when we take note of the marvelous things He has done and the beauties of His Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. The opportunity is ours today to serve and please God by noticing and appreciating the glories of the Lord and telling Him about it.
So, time for me to spend more time “gleaning”. I want to find those “handfuls” and pick them up! Then I can bring them to the Lord in worship saying “I noticed!” and “Thank you!”
Bye for now – I’m off looking for the details.
